Summer Camp

2012 Summer Kung Fu Camp - a unique Chinese Culture Immersion Camp!

The Pure ShaoLin Kung Fu Summer Camp is a sequence of one-of-a-kind, sessions offering students ages 6-14 a range of activities to keep their minds and bodies fit. Campers will have a unique opportunity to improve their Kung Fu skills, learn the academic fundamentals of Kung Fu in Mandarin Chinese, and most of all, have fun! Featuring a curriculum not normally offered by our school (or anywhere else for that matter!), this camp is truly one of the most fun and effective ways to keep your child’s brain and body stimulated during the summer. Best of all, you don’t have to send them away!

NO PRIOR TRAINING REQUIRED

Objectives:

  1. To learn new applications of Kung Fu Forms.
  2. To learn the Mandarin Chinese terminology of Kung Fu movements.
  3. To understand Chinese culture and wisdom, and learn how to gain internal balance.

Kung Fu Camp is offered during two separate 2-week sessions:

  • 6/18 - 6/29 - Fundamentals of San Shou
  • 7/23 - 8/3 - Fundamentals of Nunchaku

San Shou, or “free hand,” is the close-quarters hand-to-hand system of combat developed by the Modern Chinese Government. Commonly known as Chinese kickboxing, San Shou is the main component to our sparring program. Aside from physical training, students will be presented with real life scenarios where they will be expected to respond in a non-violent manner.

Class schedule:

9:00am-10:30am          San Shou Boxing Lesson
10:30am-10:45am        Break / Snack time (parent to provide child’s snack)
10:45am-11:40am        Mandarin Chinese Lesson of Kung Fu terminology
11:40am-12:00pm        Watch and discuss Chinese Kung Fu movies

Nunchaku, also known as the chain stick, is a short-range weapon that consists of two sticks connected at their ends with chain or a rope. It was made most famous by Bruce Lee in his movies. Aside from being easy to carry, it is a very versatile weapon which can be used to defend against most any weapon.

Class schedule:

9:00am-10:30am          Nunchaku Lesson
10:30am-10:45am        Break / Snack time (parent to provide child’s snack)
10:45am-11:40am        Mandarin Chinese Lesson of Kung Fu terminology
